 Cultural
Fusion is a community arts group established by local
artists to promote and develop local arts activity. The
aim is to keep alive an understanding of the traditions
associated with South Asian henna customs at a time when
successive generations are moving away from them.
Cultural Fusion represents arts practice that is unique
to the area of Slough, which comprises of Pakistani/
Indian/ and African (Somali) communities to whom
decorative arts are important for self-expression.
Its first project took place at Slough Museum with a
small grant form a local Regeneration Fund and looked at
the rituals, customs, history and traditions of henna
art. This event involved local visual artists in a
series of workshops ensuring these traditions are not
lost. These workshops were highly celebrated amongst
Slough’s diverse community, bringing positive responses
from a wide audience.
